Breville: the Australian kitchen brand that changes hands from one continent to the next

Born in Australia, Breville's coffee machines, ovens and food preparation appliances belong, depending on where you live, to two different groups.

Breville was born in Australia. It is from there that the brand has built its identity as a maker of kitchen and cooking appliances, with a catalogue that runs from coffee machines to ovens, by way of cookers and food preparation appliances. But the Breville name does not refer to the same company everywhere. In Europe and the United Kingdom, it is Newell Brands that operates the brand, separately from Breville Group Limited, which is active in the rest of the world. One name, two houses.

One name, two houses

The brand’s website is published by Breville Pty Limited, the entity that has historically carried the Breville name. That structure is not the only one to use the name, however. In Europe and the United Kingdom, Newell Brands operates the brand separately, outside the scope of Breville Group Limited. For anyone buying a Breville appliance, this set-up means that the brand is not managed by the same company depending on where in the world you are.

Four families of appliances

The range is organised around four categories. Coffee machines form the heart of it, with a world of accessories and maintenance solutions designed for espresso machines. Ovens cover everyday cooking. Cookers complete the offer for preparing meals. Food preparation appliances close the list, for everyday tasks in the kitchen. Together, these four families make up most of what the brand offers.

Maintenance, a chapter of its own

For its espresso machines, Breville highlights a maintenance side that is separate from the rest of the range. According to the brand, the accessories and solutions offered for these appliances are, in its own words, “of guaranteed quality”. This promise is aimed at people who want to extend the life of their machine after purchase, rather than at the appliance alone the moment it comes out of the box.

A global leader, in its own words

Breville describes itself as a global leader in kitchen and cooking appliances. It is the brand itself that puts forward this position, in its presentation, to sum up its place in a sector where it covers coffee, cooking and food preparation alike. This claim remains the company’s own, to be taken as such rather than as a ranking established by a third party.

Two catalogues, one shared banner

This split between Breville Pty Limited and Newell Brands is not an isolated administrative detail: it shapes the way the brand actually exists on each continent. A Breville appliance seen from Australia or elsewhere in the world comes under Breville Group Limited. A Breville appliance seen from Europe or the United Kingdom comes under Newell Brands. The brand remains a single banner, but two companies ensure its commercial existence depending on the geographical area.

Why we like it

We like the idea of a brand that covers the whole kitchen, from the morning coffee to the evening meal, without limiting itself to a single type of appliance. We also like the frankness of its organisation: knowing that the Breville name changes hands from one continent to another gives a clearer picture of what you are buying.

Exactly the kind of brand we’d love to come across on O!deal one day.
