NEUMÜHLE: the Zurich label that started in a valley

Since 2015, NEUMÜHLE has been making clothing, knitwear and swimwear in Zurich – born from a family project in a Swiss valley, developed with European partners.

In 2015, the story of NEUMÜHLE began not in a Zurich studio, but in a Swiss valley, where a mother and her son came up with the idea for a clothing label of their own. From this personal project grew a brand that today offers clothing, knitwear and swimwear. NEUMÜHLE works with European partners to develop its collections. To this day, the label’s name stays tied to that place of origin – even though the brand’s headquarters have long since moved to Zurich.

From the valley to Zurich

NEUMÜHLE’s starting point isn’t a big city, but a valley somewhere in Switzerland. There, in 2015, a mother and her son developed the first ideas for a clothing label of their own. Over time, this family project grew into an independent brand based in Zurich. The label still carries the name of its place of origin – a nod to how it all began, one that has stayed even after the move to the city. Anyone who hears the name NEUMÜHLE hears a piece of that origin along with it. It’s this link between a rural beginning and an urban base that continues to define the label today.

The collection

NEUMÜHLE’s range is organised into three areas: clothing, knitwear and swimwear. Each collection is developed together with European partners with whom the label creates the individual pieces. This gives NEUMÜHLE a scope that runs from everyday clothing through knitwear to swimwear – three categories brought together under one name and one shared design language. The result is a range that isn’t limited to a single season, but offers pieces for different moments: everyday wear as much as summer by the water. For customers, this means finding a label that thinks across occasions and seasons, rather than sticking to a single product category.

Material with a story

For its materials, NEUMÜHLE says it relies on ECONYL®, a nylon regenerated from waste, used instead of newly produced nylon. The brand states that this has saved around 20,075 kg of CO₂ since 2018. For customers, this means that a NEUMÜHLE swimwear piece isn’t based on freshly extracted raw material, but on recycled material. NEUMÜHLE also states that it designs each piece to be worn, cared for and used over years. According to the brand, this applies to the whole collection – clothing, knitwear and swimwear alike – not just to individual products. In this way, NEUMÜHLE ties its choice of material to a broader idea about how long its clothes are meant to last.

The brand’s stance

NEUMÜHLE bases its position on two claims that the label communicates itself: the use of regenerated nylon instead of newly produced raw material, and the aim of designing clothes for a long lifespan. The two points are connected. Wearing a garment for several years instead of replacing it quickly reduces the need for new production – and, indirectly, resource consumption too. For customers, this means two questions are worth asking: what material a piece is made of, and how long it’s meant to be worn.

For readers in Switzerland

NEUMÜHLE runs a showroom in Zurich, at Hohlstrasse 402, 8048 Zürich. Anyone wishing to contact the label directly can reach it by email at hello@neumuhle.ch or by phone on +41 44 500 26 87. For a label whose origins lie in a Swiss valley, this location in the heart of Zurich is a visible sign of how NEUMÜHLE has developed since it was founded in 2015.

Why we like it

We like that NEUMÜHLE doesn't hide its roots in the valley, but makes them a firm part of its own story. The use of regenerated nylon instead of new raw material shows real thought behind its choice of materials. And the idea of designing clothes to last fits well with a label that has itself been around for a while.

Exactly the kind of brand we’d love to come across on O!deal one day.
