Oakywood: solid wood from the Tatras for the desk

From its workshop in Ciche, at the foot of the Tatras, Oakywood makes desks and accessories in solid oak and walnut, from the screen riser to the height-adjustable desk.

It all starts with a wooden docking station for a smartphone. Mateusz Haberny, who grew up at the foot of the Tatras, makes it in his personal workshop; it is a bigger success than he had hoped, and other accessories follow. From that starting point, Oakywood has become a company making solid-wood desks and accessories, which ships its products worldwide from Poland.

The story

The founder grew up in the Polish Highlands, a region where wooden houses and carved everyday objects are a tradition. He became passionate about woodworking very early, then about new technologies, and ended up bringing the two together. When the accessories multiplied in his workshop, he turned them into a business, Oakywood.

According to the brand, the workshop is still based in Ciche, a small Polish town at the foot of the Tatras. It says it has tripled its machinery since 2017, which lets it control every stage, from design to prototype to finished product. The team brings together people on site at the workshop and others who work remotely; several members of the Haberny family are part of it, including in production management.

The range

Oakywood makes desks and accessories to go with them. On the desk side, the catalogue includes height-adjustable desks, among them the Standing Desk Pro and the Standing Desk Touch, as well as a classic desk, desktops and desk frames. On the accessories side, there is the Desk Shelf, a wooden screen riser, modular drawers, laptop stands, MagSafe chargers, trays and storage pots, cable organisers and desk mats in merino felt and cork.

The piece that defines the range is the Desk Shelf: a 105 cm solid-wood top resting on two steel legs, which holds two screens or one ultrawide screen, and is sold in six finishes, from light oak to walnut.

The know-how

The brand mainly works with two woods: Polish oak, and American black walnut, which it selects in the top grade for hardwoods. The top is treated with hardwax oil, which leaves the pores of the wood open and is easy to repair. The legs, handles and backrests are in powder-coated steel; the cork comes from Portugal, the merino wool felt from Germany, according to the brand.

For its shelves, Oakywood also offers a plywood version, with a thick oak or walnut veneer. In use, this gives a wood that is warm to the touch, whose colour and grain vary from one piece to the next: the brand warns that these variations are normal.

What the brand stands for

Oakywood sums up its values in three words: quality, durability and respect for the environment. It contrasts solid wood with laminate and chipboard, which it considers less durable, and says it prefers natural oil to varnish, because wood can be repaired rather than replaced. It states that it plants a tree for every product bought and works with the organisations One Tree Planted and Forever Forest.

The brand also wants to be transparent: on its product pages it publishes a breakdown of its costs, between manufacturing, taxes, margin and environmental initiatives, as well as its list of materials. It gives a five-year limited warranty on its products.

Right now

On 5 February 2026, Tom’s Guide awarded its “Editor’s Choice” label to the Standing Desk Pro. The American magazine sees it as a “forever desk”, a desk built to last, and notes that a solid-wood top needs regular care. The journalist, who used the desk for more than a year, observes that the whole thing is stable and that the top remains pleasant to the touch.

Luxe Digital, for its part, devoted a review to the Desk Shelf, which it praises for its clean aesthetic and its ease of assembly. On 25 June 2026, the brand presented a new product on its blog, the To-Do Desk Kit.

For readers in Switzerland

According to the brand, orders for Switzerland are shipped with import duties and taxes already paid.

Why we like it

We like the consistency of a brand that starts from a plank of wood and builds a whole desk from it: natural materials, oil finish, manufacture in its own workshop. We also like that it publishes the breakdown of its costs and the details of its materials.

Exactly the kind of brand we’d love to come across on O!deal one day.
