Oakywood Desk Shelf: the screen riser in solid oak or walnut
A 105 cm top in solid oak or walnut, resting on two cork-lined steel legs: the Desk Shelf holds two screens or one ultrawide screen and frees up the space underneath.

What it is
The Desk Shelf is a solid-wood screen riser from Oakywood, a Polish brand of office furniture and accessories. It is a long, slim top resting on two steel legs: the shelf slides onto the desk, the screens go on top, and the space underneath stays free. According to the brand, the top is wide enough for two screens or for a single ultrawide screen.
The Desk Shelf comes in six finishes: oak, light oak, walnut, black-stained oak, and two plywood versions with a thick veneer, one in oak, the other in walnut. The legs can be chosen in black or white.
Why it exists
Oakywood grew out of its founder Mateusz Haberny’s taste for wood. He grew up at the foot of the Tatras, in the Polish Highlands, where wooden houses and carved everyday objects are a tradition. He first made, in his workshop at home, a wooden docking station for a smartphone, which was a bigger success than he had imagined. Other accessories followed, then the company.
The Desk Shelf extends that idea: organising the desk with an object made of a natural material. The brand explains that the shelf gives structure to the work surface, raises the screens to eye level and offers an extra level of storage, for a keyboard, a headset or a notebook.
What matters
The wood. The oak comes from Poland and the walnut from the United States; the brand uses top-grade American black walnut. The black oak is solid stained oak, coated with a matt water-based varnish. The two veneered versions are hardwood plywood, covered with a thick layer of oak or walnut veneer. The wood is natural: the brand warns that colour and grain vary from one piece to the next.
The load. According to the brand, the top supports up to 100 kg. That figure is what lets you put two monitors side by side without wondering whether the shelf will hold.
The dimensions. The standard size measures 105 cm long, 23 cm wide and 11 cm high, of which 9 cm under the top. The top is 1.8 cm thick, and the legs are set 72 cm apart, which leaves room for a keyboard or a notebook between them.
The legs. These are two powder-coated steel brackets, black or white. Underneath, a cork lining protects the desk from scratches, according to the brand.
The finish. The top is treated with OSMO Topoil hardwax oil. The brand acknowledges that this coating stands up to wear a little less well than a varnish, but it is easy to repair and leaves the pores of the wood open.
Day to day
The Desk Shelf does not arrive assembled. Assembly consists of screwing the two legs under the top, with the screws and tool supplied with the product. Luxe Digital, which praised the product, speaks of a few minutes.
Care is that of an oiled wooden piece of furniture: a soft cloth wiped along the grain, then a damp cloth, and an immediate wipe dry. If the wood looks dry or whitish, the brand recommends a light sanding with 240-grit paper, then a coat of clear oil.
The brand points out that the wood may warp slightly with changes in temperature and humidity: these natural traits are not covered by the five-year warranty, which also excludes impacts, chemicals and prolonged damp.
The range includes accessories designed for the Desk Shelf: modular drawers, laptop stands, a MagSafe stand for iPhone. A configurator also lets you order the shelf made to measure.

What the brand says
Oakywood presents the Desk Shelf as an object of “practical minimalism”: its edges bevelled at 45 degrees give it, according to the brand, a light silhouette, and the two curved steel legs make it very stable without imposing on the eye. The brand puts forward a plastic-free desk, in solid wood rather than laminate, and responsible wood: it says it plants a tree for every product bought.
The workshop is in Ciche, in the Polish Highlands. According to the brand, all its products are made there by certified craftspeople, and it publishes the details of its costs.
For readers in Switzerland
According to the brand, orders for Switzerland are shipped with import duties and taxes already paid: no customs charges are asked for on delivery.
Why it caught our eye
We spotted it for its simplicity: a solid wooden board, two legs, and a desk that can breathe. We like the choice of materials, Polish oak or American walnut, oil finish, cork under the legs, and the fact that everything comes out of the brand's own workshop, in the Tatras.
Exactly the kind of brand we’d love to come across on O!deal one day.
