Chipolo LOOP: the Bluetooth tracker banking on a year without charging

Chipolo relaunches its tracker range with LOOP: a rechargeable, waterproof casing made with recycled plastic. It charges over USB-C, rings at around 125 dB and works with both Find My and Find Hub.

The brand

Chipolo has been around since 2013. The company designs Bluetooth trackers built to work with Apple’s Find My and Android’s Find Hub ecosystems. In practice, this means its devices plug into the location apps already installed on most phones, with no need for a complex third-party app to find a lost item.

According to the brand, manufacturing takes place at its European headquarters. Chipolo also states that it uses recycled materials in its products, a point it presents as part of its brand identity.

What it is

The Chipolo LOOP is a rechargeable Bluetooth tracker. The idea is simple: attach it to an object — keys, a bag, a case — and locate it through a compatible tracking app. The model comes in several finishes: Coral, a limited edition, and a black Mercedes-Benz edition. These variants change the look, not the core function of the device.

This type of product suits anyone who regularly misplaces belongings, or simply wants peace of mind about the whereabouts of a valuable item.

Why it exists

The problem Chipolo claims to solve is a familiar one: a misplaced object becomes untraceable the moment it’s out of sight. Bluetooth trackers address this by tapping into the location networks already built by Apple and Google, with no extra infrastructure required.

The LOOP’s specific pitch is removing a common pain point with this kind of device: the disposable battery. By offering a USB-C rechargeable battery, Chipolo aims to spare users the hassle of buying and swapping coin-cell batteries over time.

What matters

A sound level of around 125 dB. That’s how loud the device gets when the alarm is triggered from the app. A sound this intense is meant to stay audible even in a noisy environment, or when the item is buried at the bottom of a bag.

A Bluetooth range of up to 120 m. In practice, this defines the distance at which the phone can still detect the tracker directly, without relying on the wider location network. Beyond that range, the network of other compatible devices takes over to report the item’s position.

IP67 certification. This rating means the casing resists dust and temporary immersion in water. For an item hanging off a keyring or tucked into a bag pocket, that’s a useful safeguard against rain or an accidental wash.

A claimed battery life of up to a year per charge. This figure obviously depends on actual use, but it sets an order of magnitude: you won’t be recharging this tracker every week, unlike other everyday electronics.

Dimensions of 40 mm × 57 mm × 8 mm. A slim, compact format designed not to weigh down a keyring or bulge out a pocket, while still being large enough to house a rechargeable battery.

A material made of at least 50% post-consumer recycled plastic. This figure relates to the physical composition of the casing, a point Chipolo puts forward as an environmental commitment.

Day to day

The LOOP charges via USB-C, so there’s no need to hunt for a specific battery type.

On the software side, the device works with iOS 14.5 or later, and with Android 9 or a more recent version with Google Play Services. The companion app, however, requires newer versions: Android 12+ or iOS 17+. This gap means a phone can technically detect the tracker without the dedicated app being fully functional if the operating system is older.

The Bluetooth version used is BLE 6.0, the most recent generation of the protocol at the time of the product’s launch. The packaging, according to Chipolo, is entirely FSC-certified paper, designed to be recyclable straight out of the box.

What the brand says

Chipolo states that the LOOP won a Red Dot Award in 2025, an industrial design distinction awarded by that organisation. The brand also claims a composition of roughly 50% recycled materials across its products, adding that this comes, in its view, without compromising quality.

Finally, Chipolo states that the LOOP’s packaging is entirely paper-based, FSC-certified and recyclable — a point presented as consistent with the brand’s broader environmental approach.
