What it is

The Smeg AFC01 is a 7-litre air fryer. It comes from Smeg, an Italian appliance maker based in Guastalla. It is finished in matt white, with a plastic body and an anodised aluminium front edged with a chrome chamfer. The brand also announces an emerald green colourway.

You put the food in the basket and choose one of seven automatic programmes: chicken wings and drumsticks, meat, fish, prawns, chips, vegetables or roast chicken. You can also switch to manual mode and set the temperature and time yourself. While it cooks, a lit window lets you see how the food is getting on.

Smeg aims the appliance at families and meals with friends. The 7-litre volume fits that idea: it is the basket’s maximum capacity.

Why it exists

Smeg promises quick, tasty results with little or no oil. It goes further and claims that its air fryer “redefines the pleasure of everyday cooking”.

The AFC01 was launched in September 2026. The press presented it as the brand’s first standalone air fryer. It joins the small cooking appliances that Smeg groups under the “(R)evolutionary Cooking” project.

What really sets the AFC01 apart is its second cooking mode. Alongside the classic “Crispy” mode, Smeg offers a “Juicy+Crispy” mode. This one combines hot air with a built-in moisture spray system. Its name states the aim: to get both juiciness and crispness.

What matters

A 7-litre capacity. This is the basket’s maximum volume. It matters when you cook for several people, or for a whole piece such as a roast chicken, which has its own programme. The volume comes at a price: the appliance measures 322 × 310 × 310 mm and weighs 5.6 kg. It needs a proper spot on the worktop.

Two cooking modes. In “Crispy” mode, cooking is done with hot air alone. In “Juicy+Crispy” mode, a built-in system sprays moisture while the hot air circulates. The water comes from a 60 ml silver plastic tank. This mode lets you work on the texture of the food rather than stopping at crispness.

Seven programmes and a manual mode. The programmes cover specific foods, from fish to chips. They are a starting point for anyone new to air frying. You can customise them too, but only in “Crispy” mode. If you have found the right settings for your vegetables, you can save them in the relevant programme.

From 40 °C to 200 °C. The temperature range starts low and rises to 200 °C. In manual mode, you can therefore set the heat across a wide span. No preheating is needed: cooking starts as soon as the basket is loaded.

A lit window. The transparent window has built-in lighting: a halogen lamp. You follow the browning through the glass and decide whether to stop or carry on. The lid opens with a hinged flap.

A PFAS-free ceramic basket. The basket’s coating is a non-stick ceramic, free from PFAS. With an appliance you use often, what touches the food matters. The basket and rack are supplied with the appliance.

Day to day

The AFC01 is operated with touch controls and an LED display. The timer sets the duration and an audible alarm signals the end of cooking. The delayed start lets you schedule when it begins: you prepare the basket, then cooking starts at the chosen time.

For “Juicy+Crispy” mode, everything goes through the 60 ml water tank and the built-in spray system. The basket is handled by silicone grips.

As for cleaning, all the components are dishwasher-safe, and the basket’s non-stick ceramic coating makes it easier still.

A QR code built into the appliance opens My Smeg Assistant. This support app brings together the manual, video tutorials and guides in one place. You open it on your mobile phone whenever you need it.

The appliance runs on 220-240 V at 50/60 Hz, with a power of 1450 W. It has a Schuko plug (types F and E). After 20 minutes of inactivity, it goes into standby, drawing 0.38 W.

Why it caught our eye

We noticed it for its Juicy+Crispy mode, which adds a spray of moisture to the hot air. We also like the lit window, the PFAS-free ceramic basket and the fact that every component goes in the dishwasher. And that anodised aluminium front, from a maker based in Guastalla.

Exactly the kind of brand we’d love to come across on O!deal one day.
